〈 CHARACTER INFO 〉
CHARACTER NAME: James 'Logan' Howlett
CHARACTER AGE: 191 years old
SERIES: X-Men
CHRONOLOGY: Ending of Days of Future Past, after returning to 2023
CLASS: ... just don't fuck with him?
HOUSING: Random, please!

BACKGROUND:

Based off the comics created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, X-Men is set in a mirror image of the world as we know it with the only difference being the existence of mutants; humans possessing a genetic trait (X-gene) that allows for the natural progression of extraordinary powers. Within the setting, mutants are challenged with themes such as prejudice, discrimination, fear and hatred for who and what they are, as well as the very real possibility of a war between them and their lesser evolved counterparts.

The main story follows, for the most part, a man known as Charles Xavier, whose desperate wish is to see the two co-exist peacefully. Being such a precarious dream, in the meantime a group of mutants is formed to protect not only themselves from humans, but humans against those mutants who see themselves as the superior race. The group call themselves the X-Men.

As reluctant as he is to call himself a "hero", one such mutant apart of this group is James 'Logan' Howlett.

PERSONALITY:

I'm the best there is at what I do, and what I do best isn't very nice.

James 'Logan' Howlett is a guy you might think twice approaching on the street. Not only does he not look nice, but there is a very distinct air about the mutant that conveys a clear message that he would rather not be bothered. Yet, the brave one that does approach Logan and engage in discussion will no doubt be greeted with an aloof attitude and pronounced mistrust. He does not do small talk, nor is he an open book. Logan is gruff, rude, blunt, sarcastic and extremely short before ending the meeting with some variation of ‘fuck off’. He will not pretend to be friendly, or smile. In fact, it seems his default expression is a permanent resting bitch face.

Logan is probably best described as being an 'asshole', but there are some very good reasons why.

For the most part, Logan presents himself the way he does because he has been around a very long time. He has existed to see and be apart of some of the world’s more prominent events - good and bad - that have shaped it and humanity into what it is today. Unfortunately, for someone like Logan, the bad outweighed the good and ingrained a far more pessimistic outlook on life, as a whole. This all started at a young age after discovering the only father Logan knew was murdered by his real father; a confession made known after the trauma saw to the manifestation of his bone claws emerging for the first time and a frightful, albeit disgusted reaction from his mother. Needless to say, he learned a first hand lesson on prejudice that was only further impressed by an ‘us vs. them’ mentality by his brother, Victor.

From there, Logan existed in some of the most prominent historical time periods up to, and including, participation in the American Civil War, both World Wars and Vietnam War alongside Victor. Yes, any war was about fighting an enemy, but it was while watching his brother and the satisfaction he got from killing that Logan saw their differences. He fought for a purpose then and continues to do so up to this very day.

Logan avoids violence and will not attack unless provoked, threatened, in pain, or under tremendous stress. Those that have the courage to push him to the point where his claws come out are viciously cut down with zero remorse. It is while in these blind, beserk rages when you see a very primal, more feral side of Logan where his moniker of ‘Wolverine’ seems most fitting. Yet, while some do not see him as an animal, he does, and trying to convince him otherwise is a fight not worth getting into.

This does little to change his views of seeing himself as a bad person. For that, he believes wholly that the world is a better place without him in it and feels living the solitary life where little to no contact with anyone is the ideal choice. But really, a coin has two sides and this extended into later years for other reasons. Mostly in that being immortal saw to him losing people he cared about, through either death or betrayal. Metaphorical, or not, those scars run the deepest than anything left behind from any war he has been in. Those are the ones that have consistently remained fixed in his mind and punctuated that all that comes with his mutation, or “curse” as he typically thinks of it. That’s the price.

Does that mean Logan is fully incapable of trusting someone? Or, even showing loyalty? No. It just takes the right kind of person who is willing to be patient and understanding with him. Logan is fiercely loyal to those who prove themselves and though the group is small, he is capable of actually showing it. In his own way, of course.

One such person that tops that list is Charles Xavier, to whom Logan feels the strongest connection with where it comes to a mutual, albeit unspoken understanding that with great power comes great loneliness. Charles is also the one who made sure Logan was aware from the start that he was not as alone as he believed himself to be, even offering him a “home” among other mutants and a chance to be apart of something much bigger than himself (X-Men). Theirs is an association that, though not openly recognized by either, is something more akin to a father and son relationship. Through it all, even on his own terms, the mutant still distances himself from it because that reminder that nothing is ever constant.

Sadly, Logan will not change. He lives each day like a soldier returning from battle. He has no faith that the world will change for the better and as time continues to pass on, his opinion turns more bleak. To him, there will always be the darker part of people that shows more than the good, a war to be fought, or a threat at his back door.

And he will continue surviving them.

POWER:
Regenerative Healing
Logan is able to heal from practically every injury inflicted, even those that may otherwise be fatal to normal people, in a matter of seconds. Thus this makes him essentially immortal. Allowances to this ability are if a situation doesn't put him into an indefinite state of unconsciousness (ie: being trapped under water), or if a foreign body prevents the ability from working as it normally would. In the case of the latter happening, they are first forced out before the healing is fully completed leaving no scars behind. Logan is also immune to sickness and disease.

Additionally, because of this ability there is a resistance to psionic attack and/or manipulation. This means while another with the ability of telepathy can see into his mind, any attempt at suggestion, or use of mental tactics to incapacitate Logan are ineffective.

Among this power set also includes adapting to extreme weather conditions, allowing Logan to maintain a body temperature so he never gets too hot, or cold.

Lastly, because his body regenerates as fast as it does, Logan is able to perform/fight for prolonged periods of time, allowing him to remain at peak physical shape throughout without tiring, or becoming sluggish.

Retractable Claws
Set within each of his forearms, Logan has 3-12" claws that descend and emerge between each of his knuckles in times of severe mental duress, or when a defensive instinct is initiated. While originally bone, each claw, along with the rest of his skeletal system, has been bonded with a metallic compound called adamantium, making them razor sharp and virtually indestructible. It is only by other adamantium made weapons (bullets, swords, etc) that can damage, break, or cut through them.

Though the claws more often get presented in less than ideal situations, Logan does exhibit control in displaying them and has done so to make the ability known. Or, if the situation calls, giving someone the "middle finger" with them.

It also bears mentioning that the adamantium is actually poisoning his body and slowly killing him. This is a slow process that isn't currently showing a lot of symptoms.

Physiological Enhancements
Strength: Given the various conditioning his body has had to endure over his life, Logan's muscular system has evolved and increased in mass, never diminished, which is due to his regeneration ability and an assured durability. This allows him to take on groups of full grown men, lift, in and upwards, of 4,000 lbs, and receive hits from opponents with minimal discomfort.

Speed and Agility: Despite his entire skeletal system being bonded with the adamantium, this hardly impedes Logan's movement or challenges his speed, particularly in combat. It is during situations when he slips into the berserker like rage that his reflexes, coordination and fighting techniques are strongest. He's been shown to have impressive dexterity when lunging great distances from trees and fighting enemies atop speed trains.

Senses: Logan's senses are comparable to that of certain animals, allowing him to see, hear, and smell targets from further distances than an average human being can pick up on no matter the time of day. This makes it easier for him to track specific parties, or enemies.

It also gives him an empathy towards animals themselves, allowing Logan to feel various emotional states in them such as fear, contentment, or pain. In turn, Logan is able to convey his own actions, or intentions whilst in their presence.

〈 CHARACTER SAMPLES 〉
COMMUNITY POST (VOICE) SAMPLE:

[ Logan is not particularly keen on technology, phones being at the top of that list. In fact, this may be the only time he ever uses it before finding a receptacle to toss it into.

Currently, he is in a bar with a lit cigar resting in a nearby ashtray on one side and a beer on the the other. He's not going to grace you with his face, or waste time fumbling with his big fingers to type shit out. No, it's just his voice. A not so pleased one, at that. ]

I'm supposed to believe that all this is for the greater good, huh? That this so-called government needs me and my powers for whatever threat they might face today, tomorrow, or whenever. Well, I'm not interested and they should have known that when they collected the rest of the information they did on me.

[ Logan reaches for his cigar, takes a puff and exhales. ]

So, someone care to tell me how I can opt out? I have no problems putting it in writing either.

OVERVIEW
I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know goes away
In the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down

I will make you hurt

PERSONALITY
James 'Logan' Howlett is that guy you might think twice approaching on the street. Not only does he not look nice, but there is a distinct air about the mutant that exudes a clear message that he simply does not want to be bothered. The brave one that does engage Logan should expect large amounts of mistrust, disrespect and sarcasm. He is not an open book. He does not do small talk. Any conversation with him is generally limited to one, or two words and when he does talk it is gruff, rude, blunt and overall pessimistic. One should also never expect him to smile. In fact, it could be said that Logan seems to have the world's most perpetual resting bitch face.

In one word, Logan is probably best described as being an 'asshole', but there are some good reasons why.

First and foremost, Logan is a soldier, existing through some of the most prominent historical time periods up to, and including, participation in the American Civil War, both World Wars and Vietnam War. It goes without saying that for a person serving in any war, it can leave lingering effects. Imagine the impact it could leave if someone served in all of them. Not only did Logan have blood on his hands, but serving also gave him a firsthand glimpse at the merciless behavior capable by both humans and mutants alike.

But there are other reasons Logan presents himself the way he does, mostly in that he has been around a very long time and lost almost everyone he has ever come to care about. That, or they have betrayed him, which does not help with the constant need to escape into solitary life and avoid the general population, if he can. Those are scars that run deeper than anything left behind from any war he has been in. Those are the ones that have consistently remained in his mind and stayed to remind him that he is better off alone; to live with the “curse” of his mutation, as he typically thinks of it.

Does that mean Logan is fully incapable of trusting someone? Or, even showing loyalty? No. It just takes the right kind of person who is willing to be patient and understanding with him. Logan is not beyond loyalty and though the group is small, he is capable of actually showing it. Although, he will in his own way.

The one that tops that list is Charles Xavier, to whom Logan feels the strongest connection with where it comes to knowing that with great power comes great loneliness. Charles is also the one who made sure Logan was aware from the start that he was not as alone as he believed himself to be and offered the reluctant mutant a “home”. He also gave him a chance to be a part of a group that uses their abilities for the good. But even if it is on his own terms, the mutant still distances himself from it. Theirs is an association that in later years, though not openly recognized by either, became something more akin to a father and son relationship.

With the exception of being at his absolute worse, Logan does have a moral side and will not attack unless provoked, threatened, in pain, or under tremendous stress. Those that have the courage to push him to the point where his claws come out are taken out with zero remorse. It is while in these blind, beserker rages when you see a very primal, more feral side of Logan. This is where his moniker of ‘Wolverine’ seems most fitting. And while some do not see him as an animal, he does, and trying to convince him otherwise is literally impossible.

Sadly, Logan will not change. He lives each day like a soldier returning from battle. He simply has no faith that the world will change for the better and as time passes on, his opinion turns more bleak. To him, there will always be the darker part of people that shows more than the good. There will always be a war to fight, or a threat at his back door.

But if a day comes when there is not, then there will always be an adamantium bullet hidden deep down in one of his pockets.
